Opposes sex education in school
Head of Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill, strongly opposes Russian schools to offer sex education, as suggested with the State Duma’s ratification of the European Social Charter.
According to The Moscow Times, Patriarch Kirill invited the United Russia deputies to his office on Wednesday to voice his angst over plans to introduce sex education in Russian schools. Kirill left the meeting with a promise from the pro-Kremlin party that he would be allowed to preview all legislation considered in the State Duma.
Russia was obliged to approve the European Social Charter as part of its membership in the Council of Europe. The paragraph on sex education in public schools is just one of many items on the list for implementation within the member states.
Kirill said to the two Duma deputies that parents should be responsible for both sex education and disciplining their children, not the government.
