Two World Cup medals for Petukhov
Aleksei Petukhov from Murmansk won two silver medals in this weekend´s Cross-Country Ski World Cup in Dusseldorf.
Petukhov again proved himself among the world´s top cross-country skiers when he this weekend won an impressive double silver in the world cup sprint race in Dusseldorf. The skier from Murmansk was in the lead only few meters from the finish in the individual sprint when Norway´s Ola Vigen Hattestad managed to sqeeze in front.
Also in the team sprint, the Murmansk skier showed that we will have to be reckoned with him this season. Together with Nikita Kryukov, Petukhov secured the second place on the podium behind Sweden´Jesper Modin and Teodor Peterson.
Also Modin and Peterson have a background from the Barents Region. While Peterson comes from Umeå in northern Sweden, Modin today competes for the Piteå Elit club.

Aleksei Petukhov has lived all his career in Murmansk and studied at several of the region´s top sport schools, Wikipedia informs. The skier took his first World Cup win in Dusseldorf in 2009. In the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, Petukhov won bronze metal in the team sprint together with Nikolai Morilov.
