Oil companies fire 1000 in Nenets AO
The oil companies Eurasia Drilling and Naryanmarneftegaz are dismissing 1000 of their employees in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
The Naryanmarneftegaz – a joint venture of Lukoil and ConocoPhillips – is one of several companies now dismissing employees in the sparsely populated and resource-rich region. The Eurasia Drilling Company is dismissing personnel in connection with the moving of its regional headquarters to Usinsk, Komi Republic, Regnum reports. According to the news site, the two companies will cut together 1000 of their people in the Nenets AO. The company cuts will significantly increase unemployment in the region, employment authorities say.
