Arkhangelsk Maritime Partenariat

Arkhangelsk Oblast will host the first Arkhangelsk Maritime Partenariat, taking place October 27-29 2009. Organizer is the EU StratMos-project “Northern Maritime Corridor”.

The main goal is to gather private companies from Russia and North-European countries for meetings within the maritime industry and also focus on the regions strategic location for offshore oil and gas activities in Barents Sea and further east.

According to project coordinator in the Northern Maritime Corridor Vladimir Kharlov, the two shipping companies TransNao and Northern Shipping Company are positive to participation in the partenariat. Other companies that have showed interest are Rosneft, Lukoil, Gazprom, StatoilHydro and British Petroleum, Kharlov said to website Dvinainform.ru.

As BarentsObserver earlier reported, the Northern Maritime Corridor project has initiated cooperation with the Russian Northern Sea Route (NSR) administration. That could result in facilitated shipping between Western Europe and Russian Arctic ports.
