Economic growth amid crisis

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin today said that the Russian economy in 2008 will grow by almost seven percent. He also underlined that the government has no intention to step down on its investment plans.

Taking in a televised telephone and sms conference, Premier Putin highlighted that Russian economy in 2008 does well despite the international crisis, which the USA has “infected” the world with.

He maintained that the Russian economy this year will grow by 6,8-6,9 percent, which is slightly lower than the previous estimated 7,5 percent. Industrial production will be up 4,8 percent and salaries up an average of 12,6 percent.

The prime minister also underlined that “we have no intentions whatsoever to review plans”, and that “this concerns both the investment activities of our biggest companies, the reformation of the housing sector, the reformation of medical services system, medical insurance, education and the pension system”.
