Murmansk port declared ready for development
The positive conclusions in a report on the “complex development of the Murmansk transport hub” might have brought the ambitious port project a step closer realization. The report concludes that the project is economically sustainable and that port turnover could reach 52 million tons by year 2020.
Deputy head of the regional industry and transport department Sergey Leus confirmed in a recent conference that the elaboration of the project on the complex development of the Murmansk Transport Hub had been completed with positive conclusions. According to the project experts, the port will by year 2010 be capable of handling 28,5 million tons of goods and then in year 2020 – 52 million tons of goods. The project also includes the shipping capacities of 33 million tons of oil by 2020 and 1,1 million TEU of containers by 2015, Murmannews.ru reports with reference to Portnews.ru.
