Parliament speakers want more cooperation
There is a major potential for more cooperation, speaker of the Russian Federation Council, Sergey Mironov, said about Russian-Norwegian relations when meeting with his Norwegian counterpart Thorbjørn Jagland.
The two parliament speakers, who met in Moscow yesterday, both highlighted the current high activity level in bilateral relations. At the same time they also stressed that the potential for more cooperation is significant, the press service of the Federation Council reports. Sergey Mironov noted that Russian-Norwegian trade turnover is as much as twice lower than between Russia and Finland. -We discussed our joint plans and agreed about new fields of cooperation, Mr. Mironov and Mr. Jagland said to journalists after the meeting. Mr. Mironov especially highlighted the positive energy dialogue going on between the two countries, and maintained that StatoilHydros participation in the Shtokman project could alone help boost bilateral economic relations. Mr. Jagland remarked that Norway and Russia at the same time have a joint responsibility for environment in the North.
