Pro-Kremlin propagandist Vladimir Solovyov suggested "destroying" Norway
The pro-Kremlin TV presenter came with the threat during his show 'Sunday Evening with Vladimir Solovyov'.
“Are they all ready to die for it? Well, there aren't that many of them, so it will be quick. Besides, no one will even notice that the Norwegians are gone,” — stated Solovyov during a conversation with Yevgeny Buzhinsky, a Soviet and Russian military diplomat, one of the participants of the programme 'Sunday Evening with Vladimir Solovyov'.
Such statements are regularly heard on his programme, and often they discuss the possibility of using military force against European countries. Previously Solovyov has made statements on air about striking a number of European countries. In the recent episodes, special attention has been given to Norway.
The programme claimed that countries in the European Union “consider war with Russia as the only possible option for interaction”. Buzhinsky stated as he started listing signs that Europe is preparing for military actions.
“Now a few words about Europe. What we will have to deal with... Europe is preparing for war,” Buzhinsky began his speech.
“We need to strike now. There's no point in waiting for them to prepare. We need to destroy them immediately,” Solovyov interrupted him.
Then Buzhinsky cited the foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, who, according to him, said that Russia considers countries producing weapons for supply to Ukrain as "legitimate targets".
“This is now the official position of the state [Russia]. I think the Germans should give it some tought,” Buzhinsky continued.
“They won’t start thinking until we actually strike with the Oreshnik [a new Russian ballistic missile] and destroy a couple of factories,” Solovyov interrupted him again.
During the discussion of the situation in Europe, Buzhinsky said: “The Norwegians, with whom we have always had fairly smooth relations since World War II, suddenly became concerned that we are re-establishing the Moscow and Leningrad military districts. And they decided that we are threatening Spitsbergen, although it is a demilitarised zone. But for some reason, the Norwegians consider it to be entirely theirs and are ready to…”
“Die for it, all of them?” Solovyov interrupted him.
“Well, there aren't that many of them, so it will be quick. Besides, no one will even notice that the Norwegians are gone,” Solovyov continued. “It's such a big country with a 'huge' population, if it suddenly disappears, people will say: Was there anyone here before?”
Vladimir Solovyov is the chief propagandist of Russian television, the host of the talk show “Evening with Vladimir Solovyov” on the Russia 1 channel. His programs regularly broadcast harsh anti-Western rhetoric and support the official position of the Kremlin, and the host's statements often contain aggressive and provocative remarks aimed at other countries.
According to the Russian Public Opinion Research Centre (VTsIOM), 82% of Russians watch television programs in one way or another. Russia 1 is the most popular federal channel. In June 2025, the program “Sunday Evening with Vladimir Solovyov” received an award as the best evening socio-political talk show.
