Tunnel for city of Murmansk
Local authorities in Murmansk want to construct a tunnel under the city centre in order to ease the local car traffic conditions.
Leader of traffic authorities in Murmansk says to newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda that he sees no other alternatives than to build a tunnel under the city centre. He believes a 800 long underground tunnel could solve some of the city’s mounting traffic problems. Also city mayor Sergey Subbotin has expressed interest in the project and has commissioned his deputy Igor Kartsev to follow it up, the newspaper writes. Financing will be the stumble stone for the project. Federal authorities have already expressed reluctance to take part in the project. –The Murmansk authorities will still seek alterative sources of financing for the project, a representative of the city administration told Komsomolskaya Pravda.
