How does a snow hotel survive summer heat?
The hotel's staff explain how to keep the Arctic atmosphere even when it's 25 degrees Celsius above zero.
We visited the Kirkenes Snow Hotel in the north of Norway, where tourists can spend a night on an ice bed, even in the summer. What's the technology behind it?
The hotel's staff explains that the secret lies in the insulation system. There is also a special cooling chamber that circulates cold air around the structure.
Some might ask why the snow hotel isn't closed for the summer?
Silje Randa, the managing director, explained:
"We wanted to establish a Snow Hotel that is open all year round, both to try to smooth out large seasonal fluctuations and to develop our resort to be more year-round.
This also helps to secure more year-round jobs, which we believe is both positive and sustainable.
We also wanted to create something unique and innovative”.
