Microsoft goes to Tromsø

U.S. software giant Microsoft has decided to move its headquarters on search technology to Oslo, Norway. Also the Arctic town of Tromsø will get a company unit.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer officially announced the news in a meeting with Norwegian PM Jens Stoltenberg yesterday. The company now intends to quickly hire 50 new researchers and developers for the new offices, NRK reports. Microsoft already has 300 people in its subsidiary FAST Search & Transfer working in Norway. The software company acquired FAST in April this year for 1,2 billion USD. The Arctic town of Tromsø will get one of the new Microsoft branch units. The main office will be in Oslo, while also Trondheim will get a unit.
