Shtokman sightseeing to Norway

The Shtokman Development AG intends to send groups of locals from Teriberka to Norway to show them everyday life near oil and gas installations.

In this week’s SDAG meeting in Teriberka, the main site for the Shtokman project, the Shtokman developers maintained that the projected LNG terminal does not threaten local environment, nor the well-being of the local villagers. They also confirmed that a group of village representatives will be sent to Norway, as well as to the oil and gas-rich Khanti-Mansiisk region, to see how people live close to major petroleum installations, Komsomolskaya Pravda Murmansk reports.

The SDAG representatives also stressed that they do not intend to move the old local graveyard. They also maintained that the petroleum industry will not hamper the development of local fisheries.

As BarentsObserver reported, the company during the meeting in Teriberka also confirmed that international environmental monitoring standards will be applied in the project. SDAG CEO Yury Komarov also said that a project feasibility study will be ready by March 2010 and that 50 tenders will be completed in the course of 2009.

Up to 13000 workers are believed to be engaged in the upcoming construction of the Teriberka gas facilities.
