Cuts allocations to Russian regions
Regions with too high expenses on administration and government can expect to get reduced allocations from central authorities, Deputy Prime Minister Sergey Ivanov said at a meeting on optimizing federal budgets and expenses.
Expenses on government and administration in the regions increased on average with 4 percent in 2009. In some of the country’s regions expenses have increased more than 25 percent.
Ivanov reminded that on the federal level, expenses on government and administration has been cut with 30 percent in 2009 and will be cut with another 15 percent in 2010, Regnum.ru writes
-The Russian government is not trying to dictate the regions on how to execute their tasks and which priorities to make, Ivanov said. – But we have the right to compare the amount of allocated money and the results the regional authorities can show to.
As BarentsObserver reported, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin two weeks ago criticized the country’s governors for spending too much and urged them to avoid increased expenses on regional government. He mentioned Murmansk Oblast as one of the regions with an unacceptable rise in administration expenses.
