Lion’s share to the navy
Russia spends more than 40 percent of its defence budget on the navy, primarily to nuclear forces. The new intercontinental ballistic missile “Bulava” will only be taken into service on the “Yury Dolgoruky” submarine.
According to Russian Deputy Prime Minister Sergey Ivanov, more than 40 percent of Russia defence budget goes to the navy, above all to development of naval strategic nuclear forces, RIA Novosti reports.
At the time being the Russian Navy is building new strategic and multi-role submarines of the “Borey” class (“Yury Dolgoruky”) and “Yasen” class (“Severodvinsk”) and conducting tests of the sea-based intercontinental ballistic missile “Bulava”.
The “Bulava” missile will only be put into service at the nuclear powered submarine “Yury Dolgoruky”. Since 2003, Russia has conducted ten test launches of the “Bulava” missile. Five of the tests have ended in failure.
- We will continue the testing until we are 100 percent sure that the missile is functioning, Lavrov says. – I cannot say how long the testing will continue, but the missile will be put into service on the “Yury Dolgoruky”, RIA Novosti reports.
