Russia getting more popular
An international poll from the BBC conducted in 34 countries shows that Russia is improving its international reputation. The people with a positive view of Russia have increased from 29 percent last year to 37 percent this year.
Almost 17500 people from 34 countries have been asked to give their assessments of 13 countries, among them the USA, the EU, Russia, Japan and Germany. The poll was conducted in the period 31 October 2007 – 25 January 2008.
Russia is the biggest winner in the poll. The positive views of the country have risen on average from 29 percent last year to 37 percent this year. Meanwhile, the negative views have fallen from 40 percent to 33 percent. The view of Russia grew positive in 12 of the 34 countries, the study report shows.
Germany is the most positively rated country, followed by Japan and the European Union.
The USA this year increased its rating. 35 percent of respondents now positively view the country, while 47 percent are negative.
The BBC polls have been conducted in cooperation with the GlobeScan polling firm and the Program on International Policy Attitudes (PIPA) yearly since 2005.
