StatoilHydro eyes Yamal
Looking for more business opportunities in Russia, Norway’s StatoilHydro says their Arctic focus also includes the Yamal Peninsula.
Yamal is expected to become Russia’s next major gas export project after Shtokman. In June, BarentsObserver reported that Gazprom said both Total and Shell are on the shortlist as possible partners for the planned liquefied natural gas (LNG) project on Yamal.
StatoilHydro is the only company that operates a LNG-plant in the Arctic today. The Melkøya plant in Finnmark process natural gas from the Snøhvit field in the Barents Sea.
Quoted by Reuters, Bengt Lie Hansen, president for StatoilHydro Russia, said the possibilities for doing business in Russia is acceptable from StatoilHydro’s point of view.
Lie Hansen said StatoilHydro will await signals from their cooperation partners regarding the timing for possible Yamal development. StatoilHydro is, together with Total and Gazprom, partner in the Shtokman Development Company.
